The live-action rendition of The Little Mermaid is set to premiere in theaters at the end of this month, and that means the promotion train is picking up steam. One of those promo vehicles is a newly released clip that shows the talent behind the voices of Sebastian, Scuttle and others bring their characters to life.

The video starts out by showing Daveed Diggs (Hamilton, Snowpiercer) and Awkwafina (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), who voice Sebastian and the hair-brained bird Scuttle, respectively, saying their lines with flair. Later on, we see a young Jacob Tremblay (Luca, Room, Doctor Sleep) bring Flounder to life and get a glimpse of Awkwafina doing some Scuttle-inspired improv.

We also get some interview time with director Rob Marshall and Ariel and Prince Eric themselves, played respectively by Halle Bailey and Jonah Hauer-King, including a scene of Hauer-King getting a large medicine ball thrown at him for training(?) and Bailey singing Part of Your World in the studio.

Last but not least, Melissa McCarthy, who plays Ursula in the film, talks about playing against King Triton actor Javier Bardem. She also mentions that Ursula is King Triton’s sister? I missed that if that relationship was made clear in the animated feature, but sure, let’s go with it.

The live-action reimagining of The Little Mermaid premieres in theaters on May 26, 2023.
